ABOUT NEW HOPE CHRISTIAN CHURCH - THEOLOGY - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS - FAQ's
What does it mean to be a Christian?
The word “Christian” means a Christ follower. The name was given to followers of Jesus in the first century, believe it or not, by non-Christians. When someone wears the title of Christian, they are saying that they are a follower of the teachings of Jesus Christ and abide in those teachings the best they can.
How do I become a Christian?
To become a Christian, one must express faith in Jesus Christ, who He is and what He has done. He is God come in the flesh (John 1:14), died on the cross for our sins (Acts 2:36), and three days later rose from the grave (Lu 24:7).
What does it mean to be saved?
The word “saved” is synonymous with Christian. Ie. One who is saved is considered to be a Christian. We are saved by faith (Ephesians 2:8-9), and this salvation is a gift that we do not nor can we merit. The price paid was the precious blood of Jesus (I Pe 1:18-19).
What does it mean to be “born again?”
To be born again is also synonymous with salvation. It means to be born anew spiritually. God imparts His righteousness to the believer and that makes the believer perfect in God’s eyes. God doesn’t make the believer better, He makes them new (!! Corinthians 5:17).
Can I lose my salvation?
A legitimately born again individual cannot lose their salvation.
You are permanently sealed by the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 4:30).
All believers are placed into one body (Ephesians 4:4).
God protects believers (John 10:29).
Why do I need to be committed to a church?
Jesus raised up the church so believers could learn His Word, fellowship with like-minded people for support and discover and use their spiritual gifts in His service (Ephesians 4:11-13).
What is sanctification?
Sanctification is the means by which God uses circumstances, people, events and His Word to conform the believer to the image of His Son. This of course requires the willingness of the believer to cooperate. That signifies the importance of learning the Word of God (John 17:17).
